If your new year will begin with some trip planning, consider starting your search on the airline Web pages offering the best deals. Search engines don't always include these deals, especially for carriers outside the U.S. This list links some of the better "special offer" pages on the Internet. Flexible travelers often look for the best deal and then plan their trips from that point. It's not a bad strategy!

You didn’t mention Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air. The only reason I can think of is that you are from the east coast.

Those of us on the west coast are very very aware of Alaska and their sister airline Horizon. They give other airlines a run for their money in many markets. Especially Southwest and United.

If you check their website, which is integrated under Alaskaair.com you will find many deals and specials and you can join their mailing list to get notice of specials and deals. One of which is that if you join their mileage program they run a 15000 mile special between certain cities that rotate.

They get left out of a lot of lists and it seems like a crime. They are one of the biggest and best airlines on the west coast.

And I haven’t found a reservation agent from Alaska or Horizon who hasn’t told me if there are vacant seats on certain flights.
