While it is true that choosing your destination carefully can save money on travel, it is also true that the expensive places can grace a budget travel itinerary -- it just takes a little more planning. The idea that certain cities are just too expensive is one of 10 common travel myths you can debunk after reading this article.

I’m a big fan of myth #3 and #9.
My wife and I have booked 4 star hotel rooms via Priceline for about 70% off the rates shown on Expedia and other online agencies. And at no point did we feel we were somehow downgraded with one exception: the Manhattan Hilton on 6th Avenue.
As for #9, Europe’s low cost airlines can make getting between cities extraordinarily cost effective, but make sure to add up the additional cost (and time) of getting from the airports to city center. Many budget airlines fly into secondary airports (i.e., Ryanair’s service to “Barcelona” which is actually Girona and located 1 1/2 hours away) and travelers make up the lower ticket cost by paying for incremental transportation fees.
I quite support myth 5, the “off-season” trips. In many cases, it equals less people, better service, less costs, more enjoyable. So long as it’s not heaven-earth differences, “off-season” is always my choice.
