Poll: Travelers Still Willing to Hit the Road
Thursday July 24, 2008
Visa, Inc. recently conducted a survey of travelers who leave their home countries at least once every three years. The results were published in a news release. Perhaps the most interesting finding: 63 percent of respondents said they are at least as willing--if not more so--to travel now as they were at this time last year. The survey also suggests an upsurge in visits to places with exchange rates more favorable to the U.S. Dollar, places such as the Caribbean and Mexico. One other finding: The folks at Visa, Inc. discovered 73 percent of travelers prefer credit cards or debit cards to cash or travelers checks.

Is preferable to use your credit card when you travel in Europe. Exchange houses charge you almost 20 cents for each Euro on top of the bad exchange rate due to the weak dollar.
Agreed. When you use a credit card, you get the preferential exchange rates accorded to big banks.
Traveller’s cheques are definitely on their way out, but I still prefer to use cash because you often come across places that won’t accept plastic. I set a budget for the week, then get money from an ATM with my debit card - it’s easier to keep track of how much I spend and means that I don’t get hit with as many fees and charges.
