But this fact remains -- the rail networks of the world offer some superb budget travel options along with connections to other modes of transportation. Cheap train tickets have saved many a budget itinerary in Europe, North America, Asia. Here are 10 chances for affordable train travel. Get some rail passes and begin your journey!

We had a most wonderful holiday in April/May of this year, travelling with Amtrak and ViaRail on a joint 30day senior railpass and adding on bedroom accommodation, which then included meals etc. Timing gave us the cheaper rate and there are good discounts for seniors. I did all the timetabling then checked it out with Craig (brilliant!) at ViaRail in Canada, who did all the bookings and advised on upgrades etc. Everything worked perfectly and we saw so much that we would not have been able to see any other way. I can recommend it!
