All Asia Pass '09 starts at $1,499 USD

Sunday December 21, 2008
Cathay Pacific is announcing its All Asia Pass for 2009. You must be a U.S. resident, depart from the U.S. and book your pass through a travel agent. The cost for up to 21 consecutive days of travel in 2009 will start at $1,499 USD for travel Monday - Wednesday mid-week long-haul travel only. That price does not include U.S. taxes and fees. It does include round trip airfare between New York, Los Angeles or San Francisco and Hong Kong (you can choose another U.S. departure city for a fee). Then, from Hong Kong, you may choose up to two other Asian destinations from a list of 24 cities (it's possible to get four cities, but the price increases by $300 USD for each additional destination). If your desired location isn't among that group, you may choose from among 27 additional cities for an additional $300 round trip from Hong Kong. Be sure to read the fine print carefully with your travel agent. For example, there is a $500 surcharge for summer departures (May 18-Aug. 16) and the pass is only good for travel between Feb. 8 and Dec. 1, 2009. This is a great opportunity to make a once-in-a-lifetime Asian journey to places like Seoul, Beijing or Bangkok at a fraction of the airfare you'd expect to pay.

This is a HUGE devaluation over what the pass used to be. First of all, the price went up by several hundred dollars. You may be able to get a discount if you register on their website. Then, and this is the deal breaker for me, you could fly to as many cities as you wanted, but each city only once. Now, you can only fly to two cities at a higher price. Shame on you, Cathay’s marketing team. I love this airline, but this is not a big deal anymore. There are other Asian carriers who offer a similar deal at a better price.
The only news about this airpass is to NOT TAKE IT

Timmer, what are some of the deals you’ve found to be better?

Hi,
Wow, this is such a nice stuff by Cathay Pacific. Especially for US citizens. Even the taxes are not included in the travel charges. I, think, this is one of the best opportunity to celebrate your vacation in year 2009.
