Car Sharing: An Alternative to Expensive Car Rentals

Monday December 29, 2008
Ever heard of car sharing? This is not borrowing a friend's car to do some shopping. It's a form of car rental in which you, as a member of a car sharing club, have access to a vehicle for an hour or two. You swipe a card in a reader by the windshield to gain access and you're off. The hourly rates sure beat renting a car for several days and paying expensive overnight parking fees. Car sharing clubs typically pick up your gasoline costs and insurance, too. If you're planning trips to some big cities in 2009, read more about car sharing and consider if it might benefit your travel budget.

I have friends who live in San Francisco that use this type of service since neither of them own cars, and it is fantastic! I wanted to purchase some memory foam mattress covers for one of my friends as a thank you for putting me up, and we were able to use a nice car for a couple of hours to go to a store outside the City and it was only about $20! Perfect!
