Bargain Airfares: Get Them While They Last
If you were shopping for airfares this week, I hope you found some great deals. They were there for the taking to many popular destinations. Fares to Latin America and Mexico are at lows you aren't likely to see very often. Predictably, airfares to Mexico were slashed as airlines try to recover losses related to the swine flu situation. The majors also posted low summer fares to Latin America. One example: American Airlines offered a $300 round trip ticket from Fort Lauderdale to San Jose, Costa Rica.
Bound for Europe? Last year at this time, fares were soaring. This year, Air Berlin and Lufthansa are posting round trip fares such as $514 before taxes between New York and London. Fares like that are often reserved for the dead of winter, but these are good for departures as late as Aug. 30.
If you don't have definite travel plans for the next few months, a bargain airfare could set up the remainder of your itinerary. Take a look at airline special offer pages and make a great buy.

If you can leave from Miami to Costa Rica the rate can sometimes be even cheaper. I have been going to Costa Rica for over 17 years and the rate now is less expensive then when I first started going. Incredible.
I think the Miami fare might have been a bit lower, but for me the fares into South Florida were lower for Fort Lauderdale. I found out there is a shuttle that runs between the two airports for about $30, so if Miami is a lot cheaper, it’s worth transferring.
Air Berlin is great for accessing the rest of Europe after you fly cheaply into Germany. Prices to Germany are only $400 from Los Angeles. This is unheard of. Last week I had a friend fly from LAX to Dusseldorf on a 5 day leisure trip. What’s next, weekend trips to Europe. It’s getting that cheap!
