Don’t forget the value-added options of staying at a bed & breakfast. A wonderful home-cooked breakfast that lasts most of the day, unique and peaceful settings and a homey atmosphere.

Another fabulous way to get a place to stay is by dog-sitting or cat-sitting.

I got a free stay in NYC that way (friend of a friend) and someimes it can be local but a really nice house that makes you feel like you are in a hotel . . . with the added perk of a pet!
