Baggage fees are inching upward again. Among the major carriers, Continental, Delta, United and US Airways will add another $5 if you don't arrange to check your baggage online. American is up to $20 for the first bag and $30 for the second bag, effective this Friday, Aug. 14.
Budget airlines are getting in on the increase act, too. Since January, Southwest, Easyjet and JetBlue have increased some of these fees as well.
Packing properly for a budget trip has never been more important. You'll need help, so consider some accessories that could help you save on baggage fees, including a good quality fold-up mask and snorkel set.
Airlines are determined to increase these fees and make you pay for heavy baggage. You should be equally determined to travel with one carry-on bag as your main piece of luggage and leave the heavy stuff at home.
