I'm not a fan of toll roads, but I would gladly pay to travel the Pacific Coast Highway in California. The views are spectacular and the pace is slow. Savor the views around every bend and you'll have an enduring travel memory. The good news is that there are no tolls on this incredible stretch of roadway. In fact, many of the best things in travel are free. If you think that's a cliche, check out an editorial special from About.com entitled Free Things to Do Around the World. There are scores of practical suggestions from About.com Travel Guides about terrific experiences you can have without passing a ticket window or a toll booth.

Driving the Pacific Coast Highway in Ca is one of lifes true pleasures! I try and drive at least a portion of it every few years, it never disappoints me. Recently I have driven the Mexican portion of the Pacific down to the Yucatan, it was fantastic to see the entire coastline! What beautiful towns and people in both countries share the coastline route, a fantastic adventure indeed!
It is a great drive if you could only keep the trucks off the road. Each truck is the same as 5 cars. Rude drivers …. having to watch every time you approch one.
