Few costs are more annoying to budget travelers than airline baggage fees. After all, the privilege of checking a bag (or several bags) was free just a few years ago. Airlines need the new revenue streams created from these fees, and in fact continue to increase them at frequent intervals. If you're fed up, fight back by taking a few minutes to read a step by step approach to avoid baggage fees.

When I’m shopping for Air Fares, I make a list of Dumb Stuff they are going to charge me for and add that to any fare that is quoted to me. So, if I’m going to be checking in any bags, I add those fess to the quote. So say I have a choice between United and SWA. I’ll add the United baggage fees their ticket price, and consider that the Real Price.
Yes, sometimes I actually choose the more expensive ticket because the flight is more convenient. But at least I know what I’m really paying for that trip.
