For years I have heard about tailgating on football Saturdays at the University of Mississippi. For years I have wanted to see it. So yesterday, I made my way to Oxford for the Ole Miss-Kentucky game.
The festivities met and surpassed the glowing descriptions I had heard. Imagine hundreds of tents pitched in a beautiful shaded part of the campus known as The Grove. The air is filled with the aroma of barbecue and the relaxed laughter of fans anticipating a game. Although I tried to maintain a neutral appearance, most of my family was wearing Kentucky blue. No matter. The atmosphere is friendly and inviting. Fans from both schools enjoyed picture-perfect weather, and Ole Miss fans enjoyed a hard-fought 42-35 win.
One network recently proclaimed The Grove experience the second-best atmosphere in all of college football. And the University of Mississippi is one of our 10 great college football venues you can visit on a budget. Take a look at some tips for making such trips and realize it was tough to narrow the list to just 10 schools.
