Third Annual Budget Travel Resolutions
European Delivery

By , About.com Guide

Resolution #2: I'll consider taking a free trip to Europe for my next car purchase.

This one might be a bit far-fetched for the masses of budget travelers, but I know people who have done it.

European auto makers once had to beg North Americans to buy their automobiles. Younger readers might find it strange, but there was a time when names like Volvo and Saab weren't as enticing as they are today.

These companies worked out deals with buyers who took delivery of their cars on European soil. The idea: drive it around on vacation, drop it off at the port, then take delivery a second time at home. Free airfare and hotel stays were thrown into the deal.

The deals remain today because repeat customers and brand loyalty are still top priorities.

It's not for everyone.

Buy the car as if the trip was not included. Otherwise, you'll be stuck with a vehicle that will sour your pleasant memories of the tour.
