Resolution #4: I will choose a frugal destination.
Can you imagine ordering a full-course meal at the best restaurant in town for just a few dollars?
Much depends upon the "town."
Experienced budget travelers say if you choose the destinations properly, money worries will not follow you on your trip.
Tim Leffel wrote a book called The World's Cheapest Destinations. His simple premise is some places are just cheaper than others.
He spent $8 USD/night for a comfortable hotel room in Morocco. His pocket change bought all the bananas he could carry in another locale.
Some of the cheapest places on earth are among the most exotic and remote. But it's also possible to mix in so-called bargain venues that border more expensive countries.
One example: Poland is relatively close to much more expensive places like Denmark and Sweden. Adding a few days in Poland to your itinerary for northern Europe could stretch your budget and reward your senses.
It's possible that none of these suggestions will work for you in the new year. But I hope they will at least get you to think of your own list of changes. Find something that didn't work for you last year and go the opposite direction in 2004.
