German National Railway's excellent web site offers train schedules in English for virtually every train station in Europe. Travel times, costs, routes of travel all right here.
Eurail
The Eurail system can be a big money saver. This site includes tables for finding the cheapest pass that meets your itinerary's requirements.
EuroNight Service
You can save a lot of money sleeping on trains. Swiss National Railroad maintains this site, which shows a variety of comfort levels and prices for overnight travel.
European Railway Server
This site will link you with every major government railway system in Europe. Handy if you want to focus on a single nation. North America Alaska Railroad Check routes carefully, because some don't run in winter. Budgeteers will no-frills service at reasonable fares.
Amtrak's North American Pass
Amtrak offers "borderless" travel to 900 U.S. and Canadian destinations for the price of a rail pass. It's a new site, and some have complained of on-line booking bugs.
CanPass
A terrific site that shows you all the passenger routes in Canada. They have links to many of the smallest lines.
VIA Rail Canada
Here you'll find VIA's various passes and discount offers. Off-peak "Super Savers" are 25% to 35% lower than standard fares. South America Federal Railway of Chile The "unofficial" page that provides online fares, timetables and reservations.
