Uptown Limousine does a brisk airport business from its base in Cincinnati.
Operating just a few miles from the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, it appears logical that Uptown would profit from corporate accounts providing executives with rides to that airport.
Logic often has little to do with budget travel.
Many of the company's runs are not down the road to the Cincinnati airport, but to terminals in Louisville, Lexington, Columbus, Dayton or Indianapolis.
Major hubs are dominated by one or two airlines. In Cincinnati's case, it is Delta that operates more than nine of every 10 flights. Budget airlines come in, but find that when Delta cuts its fares, passengers stick with the established carrier and their frequent flier miles.
Uptown and other companies have found a niche--they get people to those other airports, and the clients who hire them save enough to make the time and expense worthwhile. How is this possible?
Take a look at some snapshots in time. You won't find the same flight times and airfares. But look at the overall trends. Ask yourself if it's at least worth a quick peek at some other airport fares before you book your flights. More information: An example of big savings on a short trip to a nearby airport.
