Some travelers scour online auctions just as intently as the arrival and departure boards at airports. If used properly, online auctions can save you a great deal of money on airfares. Recognize that the potential savings also comes with risk. Most auctions are for non-refundable tickets, and although some offer escape clauses, they will cost you money. You must also be willing to let the marketplace select your airline and time of flight. If that's not practical, the savings you achieve will not offset your inconvenience. In general, take 20-30% off the lowest fare and consider submitting the amount as a bid. Above all, read the rules before you bid, because they vary according to the service you use. Read more
