Great Britain and Ireland send thousands of tourists to the Baltic nations each year. One reason: Airfares from London are often an excellent bargain.
Air Baltic recently offered one-way flights from Dublin to Riga for 57 EUR. They offered London Gatwick to Vilnius, Lithuania for 32 GBP. In summer 2005, I paid $410 USD to fly three adults and a child from London Heathrow to Riga.
On easyJet.com, a London to Warsaw fare was recently offered at 26 EUR. I was able to fly that party of four from Riga to Berlin Schoenefeld for a total cost of $110 USD. Such sale fares are not going to be available every day, but the point is you might uncover similar gems in this fertile field of airfare deals.
Ryanair.com offers flights to Riga from 16 GBP. If you pay that fare, almost all of it will go for taxes and fees.
How long will the deals last? My guess is they will be fairly shortlived. Once the traveling public becomes more accustomed to venturing beyond the first-tier destinations, demand and prices will rise.
