Many people are shopping for summer excursions by early March. The thought of a ski vacation might strike you as something to research for next season.
But there are quite a few resorts that still have good conditions and plenty of empty rooms. They will discount those rooms and rental fees rather than risk no profit whatsoever.
There are many budget travel strategies that just don't work for some people, and this is one of them. Conditions in some areas begin to deteriorate rapidly, and trails close. Booking in March and especially April can be a gamble.
Some of the better instructors and guides move on to other jobs. The "in" crowd probably has moved on, too.
If you can tolerate such hardships, and you're willing to gamble a bit on the conditions, read on. Let's start with a couple of airfare deals aimed at the slopes, because sometimes it's better to get an airfare deal and then shop for ski resort prices.
1. United Airlines' Let It Snow sale allows you to travel one-way between Washington DC and Gunnison, Colo. for $146 USD; Baltimore to Jackson Hole, Wyo. is $127. They also offer deals to Calgary and Vancouver for skiers who want to visit prime Canadian slopes.
2. Southwest Airlines allows you to fly from $49-159 USD one-way between any two cities they serve You'll need a 21-day advance purchase.
The remaining eight deals listed here do not involve airfare. Typically, the prices quoted here are for room and lift tickets only. They are listed in no particular order but grouped geographically. As always, read the fine print carefully before you click the buy button.
