Anyone up for a trip to France? I recently received a single-purchase certificate for up to $200 off on Rail Europe's sale of seats for TGV, the high-speed service based in France. It wasn't a coupon from a newspaper or a random sweepstakes that brought this good fortune -- it was supplying a quick correct answer to a trivia question posed on Twitter. Airlines and hotels are using Twitter to post links to their best deals. If you are "following" those vendors, the short announcement pops up as a "tweet" on your list of messages. No one knows whether Twitter is a fad or an enduring part of the online landscape, but expect its popularity with budget travelers to continue into 2010.
