Here comes the convenience charge again--and this time, it's going to do more than make a $6 hamburger cost $10. Car rental companies that operate either on the airport grounds or on property immediately adjacent often pay huge fees. The result is that $50/day rental at the downtown office might cost $95/day at the airport. Is convenient pick-up and drop-off worth that much to you? If not, run a quick check of rates at a city location that is at least a few miles from the airport and perhaps doesn't have "airport" in its name. Spring for a cab ride if necessary. Most people don't want to be bothered finding a rental office in an unfamiliar city, so this inequity in pricing is not likely to go away.
