The five tools included here are certainly not the only services at your disposal on the Internet, and you might find others that do better work for you.
That's why it's important to make several base comparisons as you shop. Let's take the example of a round trip airfare from Cleveland to Orlando, leaving at least 10 days in advance of the search. Here's how it played out on one particular day (your results will be different):
Internet Airfares listed several excursion and advance purchase fares for the same trip starting at $158. FareWatch said the lowest average one-way fare was $127.78 on Atlantic Coast or United Express. Kayak Buzz indicated the 36-hour fare history for this route ranged from $185 to $520. AirFareWatchdog did not have any low fares posted for the route, but that could be a much different story a few days (or even hours) from the time of this search.
By the way, Travelocity and Expedia both showed $380 as the best fare for this trip.
All of the research described here was completed in about 10 minutes using the five tools, Travelocity and Expedia.
The bottom line: Many trips involve a wide array of prices. The one you wind up paying will be determined by your travel preferences and the moment in time when you click "buy."
Some quick checking using Internet tools will give you confidence that the fare you pay is, within reason, a good buy.
