Insure Large Expenditures

Resolution #5: I will buy travel insurance for "big ticket" trips.

In these days of bankruptcy rumors and uncertain travel plans, does it make sense to buy a little travel insurance?

It might seem like a loaded question, but in fact the answer is not always "yes."

For example, short trips that involve small pre-trip expenditures are not worth insuring. Policies that go beyond recouping your losses usually are not worth pursuing, either.

But there are situations where travel insurance will save your trip, and there are questions you should be asking about each adventure in the planning stages. Vow that you will ask those questions this year:

It's possible that none of these suggestions will work for you in the new year. But my aim each year is to at least get you thinking about the ways you purchase travel and how they could be improved. My final challenge: Find something that didn't meet your expectations in 2004, and make a change for the better in 2005. Happy new year!
