Frugal with Food

Resolution #4: I will efficiently manage my food costs on the road.

Food costs are what my algebra teacher called the "unknown" factor.

Other parts of your budget equation can be calculated to the dollar, euro or yen. You can go on the Internet and book hotel rooms, paying for them before arrival. You'll have an airfare price that includes taxes and fees, too.

Food is often the "X" factor in our budget equation. Most people tend to underestimate what they'll pay and regret it later.

You don't have to eat fast food or munch protein bars all day to stay at reasonable spending levels. To do that defeats the purpose of travel, namely to experience the culture of other places. But there are a few techniques that will help keep you on budget. Resolve to make them a part of the travel equation in 2006.
