The travel product for which I paid too much
I reserved a car for 4 days but ended up taking a slightly earlier flight on the day out. So my rental ended up begin 3 hours longer than 4 days and I was then charged the weekly rate instead. So those 3 extra hours added $120 to my car rental bill.
Why that travel product was such a poor value
This is obviously too much to pay to go from 4 days of rental to a week's rental cost just for an extra few hours. Years ago I rented a limo for $40 an hour! Now I paid that much for a basic rental car.
What I'd Do Differently
- Understand the fees from rental car companies if you are going to diverge from the original reservation or quote. I'm a premier member with this company and when I called to complain they said "too bad". I once was on a rental car bus and the guy complained that he was charged a $20 "early drop-off fee" because he brought back the car 2 hours early.
